The rice husking process

The short answer

Husking removes the outer husk from paddy to produce brown rice. The resulting stream requires separation before brown rice moves on to whitening.

How the stage fits

Cleaning and removal of unwanted dense material belong upstream. Downstream separation directs brown rice forward and unhusked paddy back to the appropriate husking route.

Machine used

A rubber roll husker is one machine type used for this transformation. Its documented settings and roll specifications apply to that design, not to every husker.

Important observations

Record the incoming batch, feed consistency, remaining paddy and any change in broken grain. Do not evaluate husking by the appearance of white rice because bran removal happens at another stage.

Common problems

If too much paddy remains, inspect the sampling method and input conditions before considering settings. If newly broken grain increases, compare roll condition and operating records with the documented baseline.

Quality check

Keep an inlet and outlet sample from the same run. This helps distinguish pre-existing damage from a change introduced at husking.
