Rubber roll husker

Updated · Editorial reference

The short answer

A rubber roll husker removes the husk from paddy as grain passes between rubber-covered rolls. The result should be assessed by husk removal and newly damaged grain together.

How the husker works

The paired rolls act on the passing grain to detach the husk. The outlet needs further separation because it contains several material fractions rather than only finished white rice.

Main components

Identify the feed system, paired rolls, adjustment mechanism, drive and husk-separation system on the exact machine drawing. Covers and guards belong to the operating system and should be in place before a run.

What to measure

ObservationWhy record it?
Unhusked paddy after the stageTracks husking effectiveness
Broken grain before and afterHelps locate new damage
Feed stabilityProvides context for a changing result
Roll conditionSupports service and replacement decisions

Adjustment and operation

Use the manufacturer’s procedure for roll alignment, clearance and speed. Do not copy a clearance value from a different machine. Make a baseline sample before a permitted change and compare like-for-like samples afterward.

Wear and maintenance

Inspect rolls with the drive isolated. Record the roll identification and the location of visible damage. Replacement dimensions and material must match the approved parts specification.

Applications and limitations

A husker belongs at the husk-removal stage. It does not replace bran removal, paddy separation or finished-rice grading. Capacity and power requirements depend on the particular design.
