Rice milling yield calculator

Calculate head rice, broken rice, bran and husk from paddy weight. Check the balance using one clearly defined input basis.

Batch mass balance

Every percentage is a share of the original paddy input. Defaults are illustrative, not benchmark yields.

How it is calculated

Fraction weight = paddy weight × fraction percentage ÷ 100. White rice = head rice + broken rice. Unaccounted mass = paddy input − all four fractions.

All weights use the same moisture basis. A residual is unaccounted material, not automatically a proven process loss.

Define the percentage basis

All four shares use the original paddy input as their denominator. Head rice and broken rice are not entered as percentages of white rice. If your report gives a head-rice share of milled rice, convert it to a paddy-input share before entering it here.

Read the material balance

Head rice plus broken rice is the calculated white-rice output. Husk and bran are separate fractions. A total below 100% leaves unaccounted mass, which could include other measured streams, moisture change or weighing differences. It is not automatically a proven processing loss.

Worked example

With 1,000 kg paddy and illustrative shares of 20% husk, 10% bran, 55% head rice and 15% broken rice, white rice is 700 kg. The four separate fractions total 1,000 kg. These defaults demonstrate the formula and do not represent a promised yield.

Compare batches fairly

Weigh representative fractions with the same input definition and moisture basis. If the input includes material later removed by cleaning, record that separately when interpreting the balance. Switching units changes displayed weights without changing the physical batch.
